How much does a therapist website cost in 2026?

Owning your websitePublished By Alex Lopez, Stepflow Studios
The short answerA therapist website costs anywhere from nothing to several thousand dollars. Builders run about $17 to $49 a month, therapist website services $69 to $336 a month, and a site you own is one payment plus your web address.

There’s no single price for a therapist website. What you pay depends on who builds it, who keeps it running, and whether you pay once or every month.

Here’s what each of the usual options costs, as listed on each company’s website in October 2026. The table near the end shows what each one adds up to over five years.

The five ways therapists get a website

  1. Build it yourself with a website builder like Squarespace or Wix.
  2. Use the free page that comes with your booking system, such as SimplePractice.
  3. Rent one from a monthly therapist website service, such as TherapySites or Brighter Vision.
  4. Hire a freelancer or agency to build one for you.
  5. Have one built once and own it, with no monthly fee.

1. Build it yourself: about $17 to $49 a month

Website builders let you pick a template and fill it in yourself. As listed in October 2026:

  • Wix: Light is $17 a month, Core $29 and Business $39, all billed yearly.
  • Squarespace: Basic is $19 a month billed yearly ($25 billed monthly), Core $29 and Plus $49.

What it really costs: your time. You write the words, pick the photos, set up booking and keep it all up to date. For a busy practice, that’s often evenings and weekends.

A privacy cost to know about: Squarespace says its built-in contact forms can’t be used as part of a HIPAA-compliant setup. If your form invites people to describe what they’re going through, you may need a separate secure form tool on top. Read why your contact form may be a HIPAA risk.

2. The SimplePractice page: included in your plan

If you already use SimplePractice, its Professional Website comes with your plan at no extra cost. It’s a quick way to get online.

The catch is what you get. According to SimplePractice’s own help center, it’s a single page with three themes and one profile photo. There’s no room for a page for each specialty, a full fees and insurance page or a page for each clinician. It’s also part of your SimplePractice account, so it doesn’t come with you if you change booking systems.

You don’t have to choose between them: keep SimplePractice for booking and get a full website.

3. Rent from a therapist website service: about $69 to $336 a month

These companies build a website from their templates and keep it running for a monthly fee. As listed in October 2026:

  • TherapySites: plans from $69 a month (Core) up to $336 a month (Elite Plus), plus a one-time $199 design and onboarding fee. Add-ons include secure emails and forms from $15 a month and review management from $40 a month.
  • Brighter Vision: plans from $99 a month. Forms that are safe for health details are an add-on from $14.99 a month, or part of a higher plan. Monthly plans aren’t refundable.

What it really costs: the monthly fee never stops, and the website lives on the company’s system. Stop paying and, with most of these services, the website goes away. Your web address is usually yours to take, but the website itself isn’t.

4. Hire a freelancer or agency: a few thousand dollars and up

There’s no published price list here, and quotes vary a lot. Guides to small-business website costs published in 2026 commonly put a freelancer-built site at roughly $1,500 to $8,000, and an agency at roughly $6,000 to $30,000 or more. These are general small-business figures, not therapy-specific ones.

What it really costs: many of these websites run on WordPress, which needs regular updates and safety fixes. Freelancers and agencies often offer a monthly care plan for this, and the same guides commonly put basic plans at around $50 to $150 a month. If no one keeps it updated, it can become a security risk, as the October 2026 PHP2Shell problem showed.

5. Have it built once and own it: one payment, then your web address

This is how Stepflow works. We rebuild your website once, and then it’s yours. It’s put in your practice’s name, like getting the keys. There’s no monthly fee, because there’s no software running behind it that someone has to pay for or patch.

What it really costs: one payment, with a clear, fixed quote after a free website check. After that, the only ongoing cost is your web address, about $20 to $30 a year, which you likely already pay.

What each option adds up to over five years

Using the lowest listed plan for each option, as listed in October 2026:

Wix (Light, billed yearly) $0 $17 $1,020, plus your time No. Stop paying and it goes offline.
Squarespace (Basic, billed yearly) $0 $19 $1,140, plus your time No. Stop paying and it goes offline.
SimplePractice website $0 Included Included, while you use SimplePractice No. It’s part of your SimplePractice account.
TherapySites (Core) $199 $69 $4,339 No. It lives on their system.
TherapySites (Core) with secure forms $199 $84 $5,239 No. It lives on their system.

Freelancer or agency About $1,500 to $30,000+ $0 to about $150 for a care plan Up front, plus up to about $9,000 in care Usually yes, if it’s in your name.
Owned, built once (Stepflow) One payment, fixed quote $0 One payment, plus about $100 to $150 for your web address Yes. It’s in your practice’s name.

Five-year totals multiply the listed monthly price by 60 and add any listed setup fee. They don’t include price increases, extra add-ons or your web address, except where noted.

The costs that don’t show up on the price list

  • Setup fees. Some services charge a one-time fee before you start.
  • Add-ons. Secure forms, reviews and articles are often extra each month.
  • Your time. Every hour spent fixing your website is an hour not seeing clients.
  • Clients you don’t hear from. A slow website, or one that doesn’t answer fee and insurance questions, quietly sends people to another practice. That never shows up on an invoice. See why your website may be slow on phones.
  • Starting over. If you leave a rented service, you may need a new website, so you pay to build twice.

So which one is right for you?

  • Just starting out, on a tight budget? The SimplePractice page or a website builder is a sensible first step.
  • Want someone else to handle everything, and happy to pay monthly? A therapist website service can suit you.
  • Established practice, planning to be around for years? Owning usually costs far less over time, and the website is yours whatever happens.

More questions

What's the cheapest way to get a therapist website?

The website that comes with SimplePractice costs nothing extra if you already use SimplePractice, but it's a single page. Website builders like Wix and Squarespace start at about $17 to $19 a month, billed yearly, and you build it yourself.

Why do therapist website services cost more than Squarespace?

You're paying for someone to set it up, therapy-specific templates and wording, and support. Extras like forms that are safe for health details, reviews or articles usually cost more each month on top of the plan.

Are there costs besides the monthly fee?

Often, yes. Watch for setup fees, monthly add-ons, your web address (about $20 to $30 a year), and your own time if you build or update it yourself.

What does it cost to own a website instead of renting one?

You pay once to have it built, and then the only ongoing cost is your web address. At Stepflow, you get a clear, fixed quote after a free website check, with no monthly fee.

Do prices for these services change?
